'Open that Bottle night' is February 26th 2022!

February 24, 2022 by French Corner Cellars

Greetings and salutations all you wine lovers!

Many of you are most likely unfamiliar with 'Open that Bottle night', and surprisingly enough, its been around since 2000! It was created by Dorothy Gaiter and John Brecher. This wife/husband team have a column in the Wall Street Journal called 'Tastings' (amongst other ventures), and are active wine critics, journalists, and authors.

The idea of the holiday evening is to throw caution to the wind and drink that bottle (bottles?) that you have been saving for all that time. A sentiment that was touched upon in our last entry oddly enough. Whether its a bottle bought to age, or a bottle received as a gift years ago, OTBN is the chance to break into a wine that so far, didn't have an occasion special enough to open.

We are sure that there are a handful of people reading this saying to themselves 'I don't have any special bottles' or 'hey, don't tell me how to live my life...jerk!'. To them we say that now is the perfect chance to run out and get a special bottle! Perhaps look for something with age, something you've never tried before, something with an unfamiliar grape variety - the wine world is your oyster!

We hope you go out and seize the day on the 26th, you don't get too many reasons or excuses to run amok on your wine collection - just remember to stay conscious of your serving temperatures, you'll thank us later!
